About the event
Book launch event for ‘HANDBOOK FOR HARD TIMES - A Monk’s Guide to Fearless Living’ by Gelong Thubten We are delighted to be hosting a launch event for Gelong Thubten’s new book, which was published on August 31st.
Gelong Thubten took ordination as a monk in 1993 at Samye Ling Monastery and spent many years as personal assistant to Akong Tulku Rinpoche. Thubten has spent six years in intensive meditation retreats and now teaches meditation and Buddhist philosophy at Samye Dzong centres worldwide, as well as in numerous organisations such as the NHS, Google and at several universities. He is the author of the Sunday Times bestselling book A Monk’s Guide to Happiness, and his inspiring new book has just been published this month.
‘HANDBOOK FOR HARD TIMES' is based on the Tibetan Buddhist ‘Lojong’ teachings and is written in a style accessible to all. Thubten explains how life’s difficulties are an opportunity to enhance our meditation practice and unlock our inner strength. Embracing our suffering can lead us to a deeper level of compassion and wisdom as well as the discovery of unshakeable inner happiness.
In his book, Thubten also tells his own story of battling addictions and anxiety, becoming a monk and finding profound personal transformation through the path of meditation.
The book offers a roadmap to fearlessness, with helpful meditation advice as well as practical exercises. It includes instructions for the powerful compassion practice of ’tonglen’ and methods for bringing loving-kindness and wisdom into our daily lives.
The event will consist of a talk by Gelong Thubten, followed by questions and answers and then a book signing. Books will be available for sale at the centre.
